Made solid to encourage birds' natural pecking instinct, these blocks keep your chickens pecking and entertained all day long. It’s like giving them a little winter surprise! And with our blend of grains, spices, and high-protein black soldier fly larvae, your chickens will be well-nourished and cozy all winter long.

The Recipe:

Here’s our go-to recipe for a wholesome, nutritious flock block that your chickens will love. These also make great gifts for fellow chicken keepers or bird lovers!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups of layer feed

  • 1 cup cracked corn

  • ¾ cup Black Oil Sunflower Seeds

  • ½ cup medium Sunflower Chips

  • ½ cup Quick Cook Oats

  • 3 cups Simply Grubs Black Soldier Fly Larvae

  • ½ cup flour

  • ½ cup Coconut Oil

  • ¼ cup Molasses

  • 2 eggs (with shells)

  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon oregano

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350℉.

  2. Spray a muffin or baking pan generously with nonstick spray.

  3. In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients.

  4. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave and add it to the mixture.

  5. Add molasses to the mix.

  6. Crack eggs into a small bowl, shells and all. Mix well.  Great for extra calcium!

  7. Pour eggs into mixture and mix all ingredients together until well coated.

  8. Fill the baking pan to the top with mixture and press down firmly.

  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, depending on the size of your container.

  10. Let the blocks cool COMPLETELY before removing them from the pan. Use a knife to loosen them if necessary.  The flock block will harden as they are left to cool.

  11. Serve once cooled or store in the fridge or freezer.

TIP : Create a hole in the center of each block prior to baking for easy hanging in the coop or a tree branch.

Once they’ve cooled, they’re ready to hang in your coop, hand out to your flock or hang on a tree branch. You’ll love watching them peck away at this nutrient-packed treat while staying warm and active.
